Marriage and In-Law Advice

The day finally arrived April 17, 2010...my daughter became a wife.  I am so happy for her.  She has not only married her best friend but she has also gained a family.  I know not all marriage's come with ideal in- laws but my daughter is very blessed in her new extended family. Her mother in-law has been praying for her since before she was even born.  I can also say I have been praying for my son in-law since he was around three or four years old.  Prayer alone doesn't make for a "good in law" but it is a good start.

In honor and in celebration of marriage and for in law relationships I wanted to give you an opportunity to share some of the best marriage/in law advice you have found either through your own experience or advice someone told you. (*if for some reason you can't post here email me at Sheryl@SherylGriffin.com and I will add it here w/ your name)

Here are some thoughts I have;

on marriage

1.  Marriage takes work- be willing to work hard even when you don't "feel" like it
2.  Love and serve each other well
3.  Pray for your spouse daily

on being an in-law

1.  Pray for your "in-law" daily

I could go on and on but I want to hear from YOU....so please take a moment to type your best marriage and or in-law advice or wisdom.

    Best advise I ever got...when I worked at a hospital in Biloxi, I asked the clinic doctor (Dr. WAS) who had again slept on the cot between birthin' babies, what his wife thought about him being away from home so much and working so many hours with all the nurses and such. He told me that his ... See Moremarriage included him, his wife and God. If he cheated it was between him and God. Same for his wife. God must have wanted me to hear this 'cause we moved to Nashville and Bobby traveled on the road for several years. We have always considered God as part of our marriage. It's not just on the cheating, although a tough subject for many couples these days, it's the relationship we have shared with God as a part of it.

    My best in-law advice came from a close friend who said that if ever I start to not get along with my mother-in-law, I should remember that she's the reason I'm married to the man of my dreams.

  3. I have to say, that if I don't agree with something my mother in law says or does I tell my husband and he can handle it if he thinks he needs to, and then it's all between him and his mother not me. I also have to remember that she raised him and I love him so she must have done somthing right and she I have to believe that she really does have the best in intentions on her mind and heart.
